Welcome to Cold Mountain Tubing in Canton, NC, where our goal is to provide an outlet for families and friends to escape the daily hustle and bustle & reconnect with each other and nature, and for solo adventurers to get some of the peace and quiet they have been longing for.
If you are looking for extreme, white-knuckle whitewater rafting that makes your life flash before your eyes... that is not us. However if you want a calm, beautiful, wonderfully lazy river float where your biggest challenge is not dropping your sunscreen or drink? You have found the perfect fit.
How This Whole Thing Works (It’s Foolproof)
We have engineered the ultimate stress-free floating system so you don't have to wander around lost in the woods:

Book Online: Go ahead and select what day and time best suits you & reserve your tube, especially for weekends. Make sure to use the link sent in the confirmation email to complete waivers for everyone so that once you arrive we can get you checked in, loaded up and on your way.

Park & Check-In: Drive your car to The Current Tavern parking lot and check in with us. (And yes, you can think about that cold drink and lunch/dinner waiting for you at the tavern).

The almost Magic School Bus: Hop onto our shuttle. We will drive you exactly one mile upstream, which will be no where near long enough to check out all of the stickers covering the bus (Feel free to bring along some if you want to add your touch and leave your mark). Once unloaded you follow a short path down to the beautiful Pigeon River.

The Float: Drop your tube in the water and let nature do the rest. The first half of the trip is slightly quicker with a few minimal, tiny rapids just to prove you're alive. The second half transitions into a deep, slow-current paradise perfect for kicking back, closing your eyes, and forgetting your adult responsibilities.

The Grand Finale: You will float right back down and exit exactly where you parked. Step out of the river, step right to your vehicle, and you're done. No waiting around for a ride back!
It is the perfect, safe, and relaxing river trip for kids, groups, and anyone whose favorite sport is lounging.
The "Don't Be A Goof" Packing List
The river is a magical place, but it will steal your favorite things if you aren't careful. Here is what you need to bring (and what to leave behind):

🩴 Secure Footwear: Water shoes or sandals with a strap are highly recommended. Flip-flops will sacrifice themselves to the river gods within the first few steps.

☀️ Sunscreen: Unless you want to look like a boiled lobster by minute 45, apply it early and bring the bottle with you.

🕶️ Cheap Sunglasses: Leave your expensive designer shades in the car. The river likes fashion, too, and it will take them. If you must bring them, get a strap!

📱 Waterproof Pouch: If your phone isn't waterproof, keep it securely zipped in a protective pouch or better yet, just leave it in your glove box.

🚗 Your Car Keys: Don't take these on the river! It's tempting, but just don't do it. Give them to our staff at check-in, and we will keep them safe and dry so you don't end up stranded.

Every great business has a dramatic origin story. Ours mostly involves 2 women on one incredibly hot July afternoon, realizing that walking upstream with a giant rubber circle is a terrible way to relax. A solution was needed & they were definitely not going to ask a man for help..
Cold Mountain Tubing was born out of a simple, beautiful dream: What if you could enjoy the absolute best, most peaceful sections of Canton’s Pigeon River without having to do any of the actual work?
We looked at the river, looked at our cars, and realized the universe was practically begging for a shortcut. So, we bought a shuttle, rounded up the comfiest tubes we could find, and set up camp right at the best place in town to grab lunch and a cold drink, The Current Tavern.
Our Philosophy
We believe that modern life is way too fast, whitewater rafting has too many rules, and your weekend deserves a 2-hour pause button. We aren't here to help you conquer nature or get an adrenaline rush. We are here to help you drift aimlessly, work on your tan, and perfect the art of doing absolutely nothing.
We are a local crew of river enthusiasts who know every bend, every gentle rapid, and exactly where the deep, lazy currents are. More importantly, we know exactly how to get you from your car, into the water, and back to your car with minimal human effort on your part.
